The technology behind the amazing MK Glycerin Burner.

The MK Glycerin Burner from AlterHeat was designed from the ground up to burn glycerin. After identifying the properties of glycerin, we determined that a modified waste oil burner would not be a suitable base on which to build an efficient burner for glycerin. Because of their poor fuel atomization and improper air flows, all modified waste oil burners require a combustion enhancer to be co-burned with the glycerin, adding to inefficient and costly operation..

The MK Burner is built on the same reliable Beckett AF burner chassis as many waste oil burners, but that is where the similarity ends. To be sure, due to it's nature, glycerin will never burn efficiently in a modified waste oil burner! MK Glycerin Burner flame

Some key design features contributing to the success of the MK Burner include:

  • Patented nozzle provides extremely uniform atomization of fuels

  • 190 psi, high pressure atomization

  • No preheat assembly required

  • Patented water purge system

  • Unique air flow design eliminate the need for a flame retention head

Here is a photo of our MK model burner combusting 100% crude glycerin (video is available here). This photo is unique because the flame is derived solely from glycerin, with no combustion enhancers added.

Our technology burns glycerin in a short, intense, and nebulous flame. With an optical pyrometer, the combustion temperature of the glycerin-only flame has been averaging over 3000 degrees F.

In fact, glycerin burns so completely that the fuel igniters on the burner can be shut off at any time in the cycle, and the burning continues uninterrupted! However, due to the irregularity and inconsistency of glycerin, we advise leaving the igniters on.
