The worldwide increase in biodiesel production has resulted in a huge over supply of glycerin, a biodegradable by-product of the production process. The world is awash in glycerin!

Glycerin contains a BTU content similar to that of LP gas (propane), and when properly burned can be used as an economical and reliable alternative heating fuel. However, until the advent of the MK Glycerin Burner from AlterHeat, all attempts to burn glycerin gave less than satisfactory results.

 

There are modified waste oil burners available to use with glycerin, but in all cases the glycerin must be premixed or co-burned with a combustion enhancer, most commonly fuel or waste oil. Since the BTU content of such enhancers can be double that of glycerin, and with mixing ratios approaching 50/50, most of the heat of combustion can be from the added combustion enhancer. In a sense, glycerin is not burned, it is incinerated, along with your heating dollars!
